"Shoot the Piano Player" : Francois Truffaut, Director (9781857100129)

When it was first screened in 1960, the fun of Truffaut's "Tirez sur le Pianiste" shocked and delighted critics and audiences around the world. Its sudden shifts in mood and tone, its wilful playing with genre stereotypes and its subtle on-screen jokes signalled that Truffaut was a leader in a new style - New Wave. "Shoot the Piano Player" and Goddard's "Breathless" had an insistence on low-budget, on-location shooting and, above all, on cinema as the personal statement of the author. Brunette's introduction to "Shoot the Piano Player" gives insight into the film, based in part on revisualizing it in terms of recent postmodern and post-structuralist thinking. It contains: a complete and accurate continuity script; a series of interviews with Truffaut; a range of reviews and essays; and a filmography and selected bibliography.

One of the Ten Best Books of The New York Times Book Review Winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize Now a miniseries from Hulu starring James Franco ON NOVEMBER 22, 1963, THREE SHOTS RANG OUT IN DALLAS, PRESIDENT KENNEDY DIED, AND THE WORLD CHANGED. WHAT IF YOU COULD CHANGE IT BACK? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King--who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer--takes readers on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it. It begins with Jake Epping, a thirty-five-year-old English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching GED classes. He asks his students to write about an event that changed their lives, and one essay blows him away--a gruesome, harrowing story about the night more than fifty years ago when Harry Dunning's father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a sledgehammer. Social Movements and Solidarity Structures in Crisis-Ridden Greece (9789463722438)

Social Movements and Solidarity Structures in Crisis-Ridden Greece explores the rich grassroots experience of social movements in Greece between 2008 and 2016. The harsh conditions of austerity triggered the rise of vibrant mobilizations that went hand-in-hand with the emergence of numerous solidarity structures, providing unofficial welfare services to the suffering population. Based on qualitative field research conducted in more than 50 social movement organizations in Greece's two major cities, the book offers an in-depth analysis of the contentious mechanisms that led to the development of such solidarity initiatives. By analyzing the organizational structure, resources and identity of markets without middlemen, social and collective kitchens, organizations distributing food parcels, social clinics and self-managed cooperatives, this study explains the enlargement of boundaries of collective action in times of crisis.
